Such clinging thorny growth occurred in Palestine not only among grain in the fields (Job 31:40), but among Lebanon’s cedars (2 Kings 14:9), among lilies in gardens (Song 2:2), and especially in wild and desolate places (Isa. 34:13). In some places it grew so densely and high that the traveler Norov and his companions reportedly had difficulty forcing their horses through it on the way to Capernaum.
