Caleb

—the name of persons and a territory. (1) (Num. 13:6; Josh. 14:6–15) the son of Jephunneh, of the tribe of Judah, and one of the twelve spies sent into Canaan. Caleb and Joshua trusted God’s promise and urged Israel not to rebel, while the other spies spread a fearful report. Because Caleb followed the LORD fully and had “a different spirit,” he was preserved through the wilderness years and received an inheritance in the land.
