Christ the Messiah

(Eph. 2:10 and elsewhere)—Christ is the Greek title meaning “Anointed One”; Messiah is the corresponding Hebrew and Aramaic title. Kings, priests, and at times prophets were consecrated for their offices, but Jesus is the Anointed One in the fullest sense: the Holy Spirit rests upon His humanity without measure, and in Him are perfectly united the prophetic office of revealing God, the priestly work of offering Himself and interceding, and the royal authority of the Son.
