(Ezek 27:16) - the source connects the name with a Hebrew verb meaning to be red. Corals are branching hornlike or calcareous marine formations without roots or leaves, produced by tiny animals called polyps. Coral and objects made from it were traded with Tyre and were well known in antiquity. Corals vary greatly in color and size. The structures made by polyps can be so vast that they form the foundations of islands or extend for miles as reefs dangerous to ships. Beads, necklaces, and other ornaments were made from coral, especially the highly valued red kind.
