Created in the image of God.
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
Humanity was created in God’s image and likeness (Gen. 1:27; Jas. 3:9). The source associates this image with the original rectitude of mind, purity of heart, holiness of will, and blessed immortality. The soul is immaterial and spiritual and is therefore also called spirit in contrast with the body. It possesses powers of knowledge, memory, understanding, reason, and contemplation, by which the human person can investigate creation and rise toward knowledge of its Creator and Provider (Wis. 7:17-21; Rom. 1:19-20).
