Image

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Gen. 1:26-27)—a likeness or representation. Humanity is created in the image and likeness of God, a dignity expressed in rational and moral capacity, personal communion, stewardship of creation, freedom, and a vocation to holiness. Sin wounds and obscures the image but does not erase the human person’s God-given worth. Renewal in Christ restores humanity toward “righteousness and holiness of truth” (Eph. 4:24; Col. 3:10).
