(stone of help) (1 Sam. 4:1; 5:1) — a place near Mizpah, in the tribe of Benjamin, where the prophet Samuel, on the occasion of his miraculous victory over the Philistines, set up a stone in memory of this victory, which he called the stone of help, saying: “Hitherto hath the Lord helped us” (1 Sam. 7:12). The exact location of this place, however, is still undetermined.
