(spring of gardens) — name of two cities: a) (Josh. 15:34) a city in the plains of the tribe of Judah; b) (Josh. 19:21) a city of the tribe of Issachar, given to the Levites, identified with the present-day town of Jenin, at the southern extremity of the plain of Esdraelon. The abundant and beautiful streams of clear, fresh water flowing through the city, and the excellent gardens in its surroundings, correspond remarkably well to the city’s biblical name.
