Forest and forests

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Deut 19:5; Josh 17:15; Neh 8:15; Isa 9:18 and elsewhere) - Palestine was anciently celebrated for forests and groves, as Scripture's frequent references show. Biblical Palestine undoubtedly had many more forests than in the source's day. Groves adorned cultivated lowlands, while forests covered hills and mountains. Notable biblical forests included Bashan, renowned for oaks; Hereth, where David hid; the forest of Mount Ephraim; Lebanon's cedar forests; and the forests of Carmel.
