Gallio
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Acts 18:12, 14, 17) (milk-fed) — brother of the famous philosopher Seneca, who dedicated to him his books “On Anger” (de Ira). The Roman emperor Claudius appointed him proconsul in Achaia in the year 53 A.D., where he lived in the city of Corinth. During his proconsulship, on the occasion of the uprising in Corinth of the Jews against the Apostle Paul, he showed himself a fair-minded and just man (14–16). According to the testimony of Jerome, Gallio ended his life by suicide in the year 65 A.D.
