Hadad-rimmon

(Zech. 12:11). From a comparison of this passage with the words of 2 Chronicles (35:22–25) it must be thought that this city of the tribe of Manasseh was located in the valley of Megiddo, near which Josiah, the most pious king of Judah, was mortally wounded in battle with the Egyptians, whose death was bitterly mourned by all Judah and Israel. It is with this great mourning of all Israel over the death of Josiah that the prophet Zechariah compares the mourning of the house of David over the crucifixion-death that was one day to be accomplished, of the Son of God, the Savior of the world.
“They shall look upon Him,” says the prophet, “whom they pierced… And in that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadad-rimmon in the valley of Megiddo.”
