Hadad

(mighty, powerful) (1 Kings 11:14–22) — an Idumean, descendant of the kings of Idumea. He escaped the slaughter of his household by Joab and, still a small child, fled to Egypt. The Pharaoh then reigning in Egypt received him kindly, gave him lodging and support, and finally married him to the sister of his own wife. His son Genubath lived in Pharaoh’s house together with his sons. After David’s death, Hadad left Egypt, seized part of Syria, and from there made raids upon the border lands of King Solomon, ravaging and laying them waste.
