Hermogenes

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(of the race of Mercury) (2 Tim. 1:15) — one of the Christians of Asia who accompanied the Apostle Paul but forsook him at Rome during his first imprisonment there. Among them are named specifically Hermogenes and Phygellus. “Thou knowest this,” the Apostle Paul reminds Timothy with sorrow, “that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes” (1:15).
