Ittai

(perhaps: existing, living) (2 Sam. 15:19, and elsewhere) — one of David’s commanders, a God-fearing Philistine, a native of Gath. He was one of the six hundred men who followed David from Gath and shared his fortunes in the wilderness (1 Sam. 27:2, and elsewhere [as given]). During Absalom’s rebellion he followed David. The king asked him to return to his own master, meaning either Absalom, or, more likely, Ahithophel, but Ittai firmly refused and received permission to follow David and his men.
On the eve of the decisive battle between David and Absalom he was appointed, together with Joab and Abishai, chief commander over a third part of David’s army. Nothing further is said of his subsequent fate in Holy Scripture (2 Sam. 18:2, 5, and elsewhere). Frog (Exod. 8:2) — a well-known and unattractive amphibious creature, of the family of tailless frogs, generally found on the shores of lakes, ponds, and marshes, and feeding on worms, insects, and the like. Frogs were sent upon Egypt as a punishment to Pharaoh for his hardness and stubbornness in refusing to let the Israelites go into the Promised Land.
