Jehosheba Josabee

(God is an oath) (2 Kgs 11:2) - daughter of Joram king of Judah and wife of Jehoiada the high priest (2 Chr 22:11). When her mother, or stepmother, Athaliah destroyed the whole royal house after the death of her son Ahaziah, Jehosheba and her husband first hid the infant Joash with his nurse in a bedroom and then concealed him for six years in one of the chambers of the house of the LORD. After Athaliah was deposed through Jehoiada's influence and Joash ascended the throne, Jehoiada's sons, probably including Zechariah, who was later killed by the ungrateful Joash, were present at the king's coronation (2 Chr 24:20-22; 23:11).
Jehosheba presents the unique example of a marriage between a woman of royal blood and a high priest. The source regards it as a special ordering of divine Providence, since the lawful royal dynasty was preserved through the rescue of the royal child Joash.
