Jehoiachin

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(appointed by God) (2 Kgs 24:6; 1 Chr 3:16; Matt 1:11-12) - eldest son and successor of Jehoiakim king of Judah, by Nehushta. He reigned only three months and ten days and was then carried captive to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar. After thirty-six years of imprisonment he was released by Evil-merodach. He died in Babylon (2 Kgs 24:8, 12; 25:28-30; 2 Chr 36:9) and appears in the genealogy of the Lord Jesus Christ (Matt 1:11).
