Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(2 Tim 4:21) - according to tradition, one of the Seventy Apostles and, in ancient testimony, the first bishop of Rome, receiving the episcopate from Peter and Paul. He governed the Church for twelve years and died as a martyr under Nero. Anacletus succeeded him, followed by Clement of Rome. His commemorations are January 4 and November 5.
