Erastus
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(worthy of love) (Acts 19:22; Rom. 16:23) — one of the Seventy Apostles, who was the city treasurer at Corinth and was converted to Christianity through the preaching of the Apostle Paul. He followed the Apostle Paul to Ephesus and from there to Macedonia, and afterward returned again to Corinth (2 Tim. 4:20). From other circumstances of his life, known from tradition, it appears that he was steward of the church of Jerusalem and afterward bishop at Paneas, near the sources of the Jordan, where he labored with good success and fell asleep in peace. His memory is kept on January 4.
