Mary the wife of Cleophas

(Matt 27:56; Mark 15:40; Luke 24:4-11; John 19:25) — wife of Cleophas, or Alphaeus, sister of the Mother of the Lord, mother of James the Less and Joses. She, together with other devout women, accompanied the Lord during His public ministry, was present at the cross during the Lord’s sufferings and at His burial, went with the other myrrh-bearing women after the Sabbath had passed to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus, and there was among the first to hear, together with the others, the joyful tidings of the Lord’s resurrection from the angel.
