Mouth

—both the bodily organ of speech and a frequent biblical figure for speech, testimony, command, or the opening of an object. To “open the mouth” is to begin speaking; God spoke with Moses “mouth to mouth,” that is, directly and plainly (Num. 12:8). To place a hand over the mouth signifies silence (Job 21:5). The rod or breath of the Messiah’s mouth expresses the power of his word in judgment (Isa. 11:4). The frog-like spirits coming from the mouths of the dragon, beast, and false prophet represent demonic deception proceeding into the world (Rev. 16:13-14). See also Tongue.
