(Prov. 1:17)—a woven device for catching fish, birds, or animals. Egyptian and Near Eastern art preserves many scenes of net fishing and hunting. Scripture frequently uses the net figuratively for concealed danger, entrapment, hostile schemes, or judgment (Ps. 9:15; Eccles. 7:26; Ezek. 12:13). In Jesus’ parable, the kingdom is like a net gathering fish of every kind, which are separated at the end of the age (Matt. 13:47-50).
