Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(2 Kings 15:19; 1 Chron. 5:26)—an Assyrian king who invaded Israel in the reign of Menahem. Menahem paid him one thousand talents of silver to secure his support. Pul is commonly understood as Pulu, the Babylonian throne name of Tiglath-pileser III, rather than an otherwise unknown Assyrian predecessor.
