Purple

(Luke 16:19). Purple dye, widespread in the East, was extensively used in ancient Babylon (Jer. 10:9; Ezek. 23:15). The temple veil and some priestly garments were made of cloth dyed purple (Ex. 25:4; 2 Chron. 3:14). Royal garments and those of other important persons were likewise made of purple cloth (Judg. 8:26; Esth. 8:15; Dan. 5:7; 1 Macc. 10:20).
