—(1) (Gen. 10:6) a son of Ham, named with Cush, Mizraim, and Canaan. (2) (Jer. 46:9; Ezek. 27:10; Nah. 3:9; Judith 2:23) a people or land associated with Africa and with military service. Put is commonly located in Libya or elsewhere in North Africa, although the limits of the name may have changed.
