Rabboni
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
—a word with the same basic meaning as Rabbi, occurring only once in the New Testament (John 20:16). The source says that Rabboni bore a higher degree of honor than Rabbi, while Rabban ranked still higher and arose around the time of Jesus Christ in the school of Hillel, where it was applied to only a small number of teachers among Hillel’s descendants.
