The Gospel According to John
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
consists of twenty-one chapters and is the fourth of the New Testament's law-giving books. Many place its composition at Ephesus in Asia Minor near the close of the first century. Its chief purpose is that its readers 'might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing [they] might have life through his name' (John 20:31). The source observes that the precise year is difficult to establish, citing proposals of 69, before Jerusalem's destruction, and of 97-102 after Christ.
