Rameses

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Egyptian, son of the sun) (Gen. 47:11; Ex. 12:37; Num. 33:3, 5)—a principal city in the land of Goshen in Lower Egypt, from which the whole district is also called the land of Rameses. It first appears in the account of Jacob and his sons settling in Egypt: Joseph gave his father and brothers “a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded” (Gen. 47:11).
