Seth

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(appointed; foundation) (Gen. 4:25; 5:3; Luke 3:38)—Adam’s third son, born when Adam was one hundred thirty years old. Seth begot Enosh and became an ancestor of Methuselah and Noah; the source associates his descendants with the “sons of God” in Genesis 6. He lived nine hundred twelve years. Later Jewish tradition attributed the invention of letters to him, but Scripture does not do so. Luke includes Seth in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.
