The Book of the Prophet Isaiah

consists of sixty-six chapters and may be divided into five parts. The first twelve chapters contain, among other things, five prophecies against the Jews and Israelites. The following chapters, 13-23, contain eight prophecies concerning the fate of foreign nations whose fortunes were connected with those of the Jews, such as the Babylonians, Philistines, Moabites, Syrians, and others. Chapters 24-35 chiefly depict the punishments that were to come upon the Jews and the enemies of Christ's Church.
Chapters 36-39 relate, among other things, events contemporary with the prophet. Finally, the remaining chapters, 40-66, contain chiefly prophecies of the Messiah's appearance in the flesh, the various events of His life, and the fortunes of His kingdom. The memory of the prophet of God Isaiah is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on May 8.
