The East.

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

The word “east” is used in Palestine generally with reference to a distant country, lying in an eastward direction relative to Palestine (Ps. 45 [44]:11 [as given]). In the prophet Isaiah (2:6) the East is called the chief place of divination and other similar hidden arts. In Holy Scripture the Lord Jesus Christ is called the “Dayspring” [the East].
