The fall and redemption.

Through the fall humanity lost its original perfection and blessed dwelling, and the faculties of the soul became disordered. Nevertheless, traces of the divine image remained: spiritual nature, moral awareness, and a measure of free choice were not destroyed (Gen. 9:6; Rom. 1:20; 2:14-15; 7:16-18). Left to itself, fallen humanity could not restore itself. In His boundless goodness God gave the supreme means of salvation in His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ. In Him the fallen are called back to life, redeemed from sin, renewed, reborn, and sanctified (Ezek. 33:11; Rom. 5:17-19; Eph. 1:4; 2:4-7; 1 John 2:2).
