— the third Person of the Most Holy Trinity. He is true God (Acts 5:3, 4), the Giver of life (John 3:5), proceeding from the Father (John 15:26); to Him belongs worship and glorification equal with the Father and the Son (Matt. 28:19); He spoke through the prophets (2 Pet. 1:21) and through the apostles (1 Pet. 1:12); He was revealed to men in a particular manner through His descent upon the apostles in the form of tongues of fire on the fiftieth day after Christ’s Resurrection (Acts 2:3, 4), and is given even now to all true Christians through fervent prayer and the sacraments (Luke 11:13; Titus 3:4–6; 1 Cor. 3:16). The principal and most general gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to the prophet Isaiah, are seven (11:2).
