The promised King.
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
Israel’s rulers were imperfect, and many fell into idolatry and oppression. Through the prophets God promised another King greater than all earthly kings. Zechariah proclaimed, “Behold, your king is coming to you, humble” (Zech. 9:9). John the Baptist announced the nearness of the Kingdom, and Jesus preached the Kingdom of Heaven. He was condemned under the title King, rose, ascended in glory, and sits at the right hand of the Father. Revelation names Him “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Rev. 19:16), and He must reign until every enemy is placed beneath His feet (1 Cor. 15:25).
