Thessalonica

(Acts 17:1, 11, 13; Phil. 4:16; 1 Thess. 1:1; 2 Tim. 4:10)—a principal city of Macedonia on the Thermaic Gulf, now Thessaloniki in northern Greece. It stood on the Via Egnatia and possessed a harbor that made it an important center of travel and trade. A substantial Jewish community had a synagogue there.
