Tiglath-pileser III

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(2 Kings 15:29; 16:7, 10; 1 Chron. 5:6, 26; 2 Chron. 28:20)—king of Assyria from 745 to 727 BC. The source calls him the successor of Pul, but Pul is generally understood as the Babylonian throne name of Tiglath-pileser III. His reign marked a decisive expansion of Assyrian power in Syria and Palestine.
