(Ps. 90:11)—a strong movement of displeasure. Scripture distinguishes righteous indignation against evil from sinful anger directed by pride, hatred, or revenge. “Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,” Paul writes, warning that sustained resentment gives evil an opportunity (Eph. 4:26-27). He also commands believers to put away bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, and malice (Eph. 4:31). Righteous anger is governed by truth, love, proportion, and God’s justice; it must not be used to excuse cruelty or retaliation.
