Anointing and the Anointed One

. The anointing of persons—kings, high priests, and prophets—and of places and objects with oil or specially compounded holy chrism signified consecration prescribed by the divine Lawgiver. Exodus describes its ingredients and use in detail, and the Lord strictly forbade making or using this holy chrism for ordinary domestic purposes (Ex. 30:23–33).
