(mute, closed) — the name of three persons mentioned in Holy Scripture, namely: a) (Ezra 2:16) descendants of Ater, among the 98 who returned from captivity with Zerubbabel; b) (Ezra 2:42) descendants of Ater, gatekeepers of the Temple, who returned from captivity with Zerubbabel. In 2 Esdras (5:28) they are called the sons of Atar; c) (Neh. 10:17) of the chiefs of the people, who gave a pledge to be faithful to God.
