Azal, or Asil

(side, slope) (Zech. 14:5). Thus the prophet Zechariah names the boundary to which the ravine, or gorge, of the Mount of Olives extends, when God goes forth to war against the nations that rise up against Jerusalem. Here is this very expressive passage in the Book of the Prophet Zechariah: “And ye (the Jews) shall flee to the valley of my mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.”
