Bebai and Bevai

(of my father, or paternal) — names of persons mentioned in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah: a) (Ezra 2:11; Neh. 7:16) of the Israelites who returned from captivity with Zerubbabel. Here in the Russian text it reads “Bebai” in Ezra, and “Bevai” in Nehemiah, and in 2 Esdras (5:13): “Bibai”; b) (Ezra 8:11) of the descendants, probably, of the same Bebai, who returned with Zerubbabel; c) (Ezra 10:28) of the descendants of the same, probably Bebai, who had wives of foreign nations. In 2 Esdras (9:29) it reads “Bibai”; d) (Neh. 10:15) of the heads of the people, in the days of Nehemiah.
