Caper

(desire, passion) (Eccl 12:5) - one of the beautiful thorny shrubs growing almost everywhere in the East, especially in the cracks of old houses and clefts of rocks. Its fruit is an oblong, plum-like berry with a thick fleshy rind. Capers, both fresh and pickled in vinegar, have long been eaten as a condiment and regarded as a medicinal restorative. The Preacher's words, 'and desire shall fail,' literally 'the caper shall fail,' signify the decline of strength in old age and the complete loss of appetite, when not even caper fruit or seeds can rouse the aged body.
