Conscience bears witness to what should be done or avoided and either approves or accuses (Rom. 2:15; Acts 23:1). The heart responds to truth, beauty, and goodness and finds its highest good in communion with God. The will is capable of choosing and of advancing in virtue (Sir. 15:14-17; Deut. 30:19; Josh. 24:15). Created after the divine image, humanity is called to holiness, to glorify God, and finally to blessed union with Him (Lev. 19:2; Matt. 5:16, 48; John 17:21-26; 1 Pet. 1:15).
