—the meeting place of two sides or edges and, figuratively, a position of structural or social importance. The stone rejected by the builders becomes the cornerstone, a text Jesus applies to himself (Ps. 118:22; Matt. 21:42). Zechariah says that from Judah will come the cornerstone, tent peg, battle bow, and every ruler together (Zech. 10:4). Israel was forbidden to reap to the very edges of a field; the unreaped portion was left for the poor and the resident alien (Lev. 19:9-10).
