(2 Kings 9:30). Paints and facial cosmetics, used among many ancient and modern peoples, were also known to Hebrew women. The antiquity of eye paint appears in the name Keren-happuch, Job’s third daughter, whose name means “horn of eye paint” (Job 42:14). When Jehu entered Jezreel, Jezebel painted her eyes, adorned her head, and looked from a window, perhaps hoping to impress him; at Jehu’s command she was thrown down, trampled, and devoured by dogs (2 Kings 9:30–35).
