(John 11:54)—a town near the wilderness to which Jesus withdrew with his disciples after the council resolved to put him to death. Its precise location is uncertain; a common identification is et-Taiyibeh northeast of Jerusalem. The source repeats a tradition that the nearby wilderness was the site of Christ’s forty-day fast, but the Gospels do not identify that wilderness so precisely.
