Gaatha
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(a Persian word, meaning: garden, gardener) (Esther 1:1 [as given]; 2:21) — one of the eunuchs guarding the threshold of the royal palace in the days of Artaxerxes (2:21; 6:2). He, together with another eunuch, Teresh, formed a plot against the king’s life; but the plot was discovered by Mordecai and the conspirators were hanged (Esther 2:21–23; 6:2). The name Gaatha occurs in the Septuagint only at the beginning of the Book of Esther; in the Hebrew, in its place, stands: Bigthan.
