Frying Pan

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Lev. 2:5; 7:9; 1 Sam. 2:14; 2 Sam. 13:9)—a cooking vessel of metal or clay, sometimes deep and sometimes nearly flat, used for preparing grain offerings and food. Second Maccabees 7 recounts the martyrdom of seven brothers and their mother, whose tormentors used pans and cauldrons as instruments of torture.
