(from Greek: earthly; from Latin: lord) — four persons mentioned under this name in the New Testament: a) a man of Corinth, in whose house the Apostle Paul stayed during his evangelistic preaching to the inhabitants of that city (Rom. 16:23); b) (Acts 19:29) a Macedonian, companion of the Apostle Paul, who was with the apostle at Ephesus during the uprising raised by Demetrius the silversmith; c) (Acts 20:4) likewise a companion of the Apostle Paul, a native of Derbe, who accompanied the apostle on his journey through Asia Minor from Corinth; d) (3 John 1–5) a disciple of John the Theologian, to whom he wrote his third epistle, and, as is evident from the epistle, very much loved by the beloved disciple of the Lord.
