Gog

: a) (1 Chron. 5:4) son of Shemaiah, son of Joel, of the descendants of the patriarch Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn; b) (Rev. 20:7) St. John the Evangelist and Theologian, speaking of the times of the antichrist, likewise uses the names Gog and Magog, meaning by these, apparently, not the names of rulers, but lands, peoples, and all the kingdoms that are to arise in the last times of the world, seduced by the devil, against the saints of God and the Kingdom of Christ, and destined to perish together with their seducer in the lake of fire and brimstone.
It goes without saying that this refers to the very last times of the world and of the Church; c) (Ezek. 38, 39) the name of a people settled in the land of Magog. According to the testimony of Pliny (5:25), the name Gog and Magog was given to the kings of Assyria and the countries neighboring Assyria.
