Jebus

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Josh 18:16, 28; Judg 19:10-11) - the city of the Jebusites, or another name for Jerusalem. Whether the city took its name from the Jebusites or the Jebusites from the city is disputed; the source inclines toward the former view. The name Jebus occurs rarely in the Bible and never after David's time.
